What is it about dreams. Why can they, of all things, wake us from our slumber and shake us to our core? Are dreams memories, fantasies, or just our own delusions of reality? No matter, when we are dreaming they are real. Dreams are there, standing right in front of your face screaming out all the things you refuse to acknowledge when you are awake. Most dreams are unique some are repeated or continuations of one you probably forgot, making it all the worse when it comes back to finish the third act. Dreams will never go away, they become you, they are you. Dreams are not something without meaning, without significance yet I feel they are not fantasies or an escape from our reality. Dreams are ghosts, and these have haunted me for years.
So I'm getting ready for work this morning and I'm sitting down to my bowl of cereal and I'm watching the news and this story comes on about an alligator attack in Florida. Turns out a group of DRUNKEN 18 year olds decided to hang out by this lake one night and one of those douche bags actually thought it was a brilliant idea to go swimming. So he's swimming and his dumb ass gets attacked by an alligator (with good reason) and gets his arm bitten off. In retaliation to this authorities hunted down and killed 8 alligators before they caught the 11 foot alligator that still had the douche bags arm in it's stomach.
Does anyone else feel this is incredibly unjust? Everyone (drunk or not) knows quite well that if you are in Florida and you see any body of water there is a pretty good chance that there is at least one alligator in it, non the less a lake that is apparently notorious for being packed with alligators. So because some drunken idiot decided to take a dip at the worst possible time (around 2 AM) and at the worst possible place (a lake known for it's gators) he gets his arm bitten off. And because of this 8 gators had to be killed. It sucks that shit like this happens. Hopefully this guy gets drunk and goes swimming in lakes again, just because I'm a big fan of symmetry : )
Saw CLOVERFIELD last night at a midnight showing by me and I'm kinda mixed about it. The film is definitely an experience and something you should see in theaters but I doubt if even I will buy it on DVD. I was really surprised about how you actually care about the yuppies. I was expecting them to be douches and stop in the middle of their running to download the monster roar for their hip blog so they can make fun of how it sounds. As much as you try not to you end up caring for them, silver spoons and all.
The monster on the other hand I felt was a real let down. I wont go into detail about how it looked (as not to spoil it for those that who haven't seen it yet) but I will say that whale monster drawing that has been floating around online was leaps and bounds better than this thing, and doesn't even hold a flame to The Host monster. It just didn't really have presence the way a "large bodied" monster would have. Too sleek, too slender, would have worked at 20 feet but not the 200-300 feet in the movie.
All and all I feel that CLOVERFIELD takes the fun out of monster movies but if Hollywood taught me anything it's that there will be more. I'm not just talking about sequels like SON of CLOVERFIELD but other giant monster flicks. Who knows, maybe giant monsters are the new zombies, and someone would have the bright idea of making a giant monster movie from the soldier on the front line's point of view instead of fleeing yuppies whose perfect lives are for once disturbed. (I'm gonna end this now before I rant more about the beautiful people) Like I said check it out, but once is enough.
Hey deviant art fans. I have slacked off on my page for about a year and now I'm back. I really look forward to becoming more involved with this site. I really like the community here and can't wait to be swapping input with all the other artists out there. I hope you enjoy some of my work, because I'm sure I'll enjoy all of yours.
Thanks to any poor soul that stumbles upon my page. I have a lot more to add. I just hate scanning and prepping these things (I get enough of that at work). Any criticism is welcomed, just don't be a douche
