Godzilla 1962 by NickShev Godzilla 1962 by NickShev
Godzilla 1962 or King Goji as some fans call this suit is one of my favorite incarnations of the big guy. Probably my second favorite in the Showa series after the 1964 design. I always thought the weight, size, reptilian face and size/shape of the fins were really well put together and formed a very classic look. It's a shame this suit was only in one movie.

I have been working on this on and off the past week or so and I have no idea how long it took. More time and more detail than my first "speed paint" but I'm really pleased with how this came out.

Given the slightly grainy edges these older films give people, I almost thought this was from the movie. Good work!

This is excellently rendered! It really captures the feel and look of Godzilla 1962 very well. I too love this particular costume, but for me it's probably more due to this being the basis for the Aurora Godzilla kit which I had as a child and loved dearly. This costume for me, works better from the side view than the front, in which the proportions just get all weird and goofy looking to me. From the side view it's perfect and classic.

I always thought his hands looked like mittens in this suit.

Little know fact: The design of the Godzilla 2000 costume was greatly inspired by this costume, but it was also updated to make the Big G look more modern.

Along with the '54 Godzilla, which is why the G2K design is one of my all time favs.

You can actually see the resemblance of both. It's a really cool design, but I like the one from Tokyo SOS and GXMG better because it has that classic charcoal black color and bone white fins. Which reminds me: the original 1954 Godzilla was actually brown.

Just the more reptilian shape of the snout and the more yellow eyes are great on this costume

I will tell you how good this looks simply by saying when i saw this in my messages, all i saw was the tiny picture. I did not see the artist, I just assumed that it was another DA member just uploading a normal screen capture of Godzilla. Then I saw your name and I was puzzled. So ya, this is so dang close I swore that it was a screen cap. This is an amazing job. Skin texture is so gritty and I am loving the background. All in all, your speed painting are just getting better and better.

Thanks! I used two screen caps for this one (one for Godzilla's pose and anther for the breath) and I think using those really help to make this what it is.

I hear you, though I would've prefered more mobility in the hands. Also it actually was used in 'Mothra vs. Godzilla' when the fully webed Godzilla falls off the cliff into the ocean at the end.

Thanks! I forgot to mention above but the huge claws and clapping hands in that film also help this suit as a favorite.
